The 'Woman with the Beard' is about the 'grand circus of lying', but it is in the first place a tribute to love. A real merry-go-round, an horizon that is blue like a film-studio, the low-hanging lamps, piled-up office furniture and a baby elephant, they all evoke associations like a Fellini movie. During the design process, there was a constant search for the right pictural balance between the world of circus and the world of politics. The carroussel makes only one turn during the entire performance: At the end when the politician stays behind alone, with in the background the U2 song ‘All I want is you’. That is where the connection is between circus and politics… and the lie turns on and on.

The final scène is as hard as rock. Terpstra and his ensemble have delivered a master-piece that will resonate for a long time.
