Setdesign of “Burning Bright” by Steinbeck, direction Ira Judkovskaja, Tryater, Opening night during Oeral festival June 13, 2008.
“Gleone Gloede” (“Burning Bright”) is the story of three communities: a travelling circus, a farmer’s family and a bargee’s family. Within each of these social backgrounds the passing on of the own blood-ties plays a major role. The performance is on location. Nature has a strong dramatic function and becomes kind of fellow actor. Director Ira Judkovskaja plays with the four elements air, earth, water and fire. With simple interventions the three elements and the three communities are making themselves felt; a huge piece of cloth that catches air stands for the circus, a sod of earth refers to the farm and finally the audience while walking over the dike, sees the sea, where the final part of the performance takes place on a raft. The fire begins to take shape in the passion and the craving in the life of the main characters.
