Concept and design of 'Attack of beauty', a public area performance in the inner city of Rotterdam, in co-operation with Pieter Athmer, choreography by Conny Janssen, March 2006.
In the midst of the rush on an open-shop-Sunday, a white blinded bus drives with wailing sirens into the crowded shopping area, 9 persons dressed in white overalls and with mouth-caps demarcate the area with tape and erect a white shelter. The siren stops and the 9 men/women start to dance synchronously in full silence. A clarinettist leaves the shelter while playing. A minute later the dancers and the bus disappear into nowhere. This surprise attack lasts less than 8 minutes and is repeated on 5 different locations in Rotterdam. The way that the shopping public was raided, did appeal to their curiosity and their looking for sensation. As soon as we had caught their attention, we presented them with the opposite of what they expected: serenity and beauty
