BREAD

BREAD Direction, concept and design of "BREAD". Opening Night: May 19, Utrecht (Festival aan de Werf)

"If I look around me, I frequently don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to relate to the chaos, the struggle for more, higher, faster. The constant flow of images, opinions and choices, make me restless. But even if I look inside myself, I experience a sense of unrest. The constant search for the best, for what really matters, the struggle for purity, the longing for love, makes me seldom feel silent in my head. On the other hand, if I stop searching, stop wanting. stop to have to, stop running, then there arises room to experience the beauty of life in all its simplicity." In the experiential theatre performance "Bread" (2007) the performers guide the spectators initially as a group and later on individually through various spaces. They do not play a role but they perform actions that form a ritual that prepares for eating bread together. The spectators are put on soft footware, a warm just-ironized shirt, are blindfolded and lead along to a place where right in front of their eyes a bread is freshly baked. The bread is eaten in silence.
