Breath

Concept and design of "Breath" presented during Theatre Festival 'Boulevard', Den Bosch, in co-operation with Dries Verhoeven, opening on August 11, 2000.

The spectators wandered with a guide through the city, while listening on a walkman with headphones to the hidden desires of inhabitants of the city. Through small modifications of the public space, the public experienced the reality in a totally different way. At the end of the itenarary, the public could hand in their own desire and add to a data-base of desires, in exchange for the desire of someone else.

Review Brabants Dagblad, August 9, 2000.
'Craving' is a little gem among the activities on the fringe of the "Boulevard". A simple idea that shows that the best thoughts don't have to be complicated.

Review Parool, August 7, 2000, Daphne Mijer:
"The visual-arts project 'Breath' by Roos van Geffen and Dries Verhoeven comes close to a performance on location. They guide a small group on a walk through parts of the inner city. Everyone carries a walkman to listen to the secret desires of those who live behind the walls. Along the way all kind of things can be seen, like a wedding gown in the bush or a small flag of the Ajax football team. This flag was in front of a window behind which an older lady wonders if death may have forgotten her. Upon return everyone can hand in his own desire and in return can take the envelope of a predecessor.I picked up the desire to live for a week on an inhabited island."
