Concept and design of 'Hartstocht' presented during Bruges Cultural Capital, in co-operation with Dries Verhoeven, opening on April 1, 2002.
A theatrical bus trip during wich the spectators experience the world upside down. They ride in an open-topped bus and by means of large mirrors they can see the world slide away underneath them. They got a view from below of buildings, churches, trees and a parking garage. In this way a rather disturbing and fascinating framing of reality was created. An audiotape intensifies the experience: various different texts describe the feeling something is being lost: control, memory, the way, common sense, one's self. For Theaterfestival Boulevard (Den Bosch 2002) and Festival aan de Werf (Utrecht, 2004), 'Hartstocht' was repeated but in both cities a new trajectory and new text was prepared.
Concept, text and design: Roos van Geffen and Dries Verhoeven
Producer: Villanella Antwerpen
Busdriver: Ronny Lambrechts
Review De Morgen, April 3, 2002
(...) The way in which one gets to know the city of Bruges through ‘Passion’ is equally original as breathtaking. (...)
Review De Volkskrant, August 15, 2004
(...) It is overwhelming that someone –in a time that everything already has been thought up- can offer the public a totally new experience with such a simple intervention.

An absolutely sensational, esotheric, visual experience. Everything that is said about it sounds exaggerated but it is still true,(…..) It shows what art is essentially about, the insight that the world can be looked at differently than how you once have decided to do. You will constantly have to review that decision.
